Lyris Hung - 5 String Electric Violin
Lyris Hung for use in her death metal band “HUNG”. Lyris wanted an instrument that would look striking to people in the audience – an instrument that had bold colors in the wood. Lyris and I searched through and talked about a number of wood possibilities, and she decided to use Striped Ebony from New Guinea for the instrument. It is a gorgeous wood – multi-colored, dense and straight-grained. Lyris also requested both lower and upper bout extensions for her instrument. Both of these extensions were made from African Ebony. The upper extension was modified to the claw shape seen in the picture. The pegs used are custom-made “Perfection Pegs”. These pegs have a 1:4 ratio internal gearing system which keeps the peg in position once the desired pitch has been reached. I am personally very proud of this instrument. It is, at once, a beautiful looking and powerful instrument. The bridge used is one of Rich Barbera’s 5-string Twin-Hybrid bridges. The fingerboard was hand-made from African Ebony.
